NS Royal 7s
KL Saracens were delighted to return to the NS Royal 7s for the first time since 2012 and took the opportunity to field a mixture of youth and experience with a large number of our Academy boys lining up with some older heads from the 1st XV squad. The tournament proved to be as tough as ever, but the KLS lads were up for the challenge and proved themselves more than worthy of this level of competition over the two days. A Bowl semi-final finish was taken with a mixture of satisfaction, a sense of what might have been, but mostly with a feeling of excitement for the future as more and more Academy boys graduate to join the ranks of the Senior section.

U14 XV-a-side Round Robin at Victoria Institution
On Saturday 22nd September the U14 boys were out for yet more XVs rugby following their excellent Cup Final efforts at KGV last week, with fixtures against hosts VI and the Kinrara Red Eagles. Fatigued and injury hit from last weekend’s exertions, the boys did well to put in a big shift to complete two more fixtures and will now rest up for a couple of weeks before preparing for the Allied Pickfords XVs at the end of October. Honours were evenly spread amongst the teams on the day, the KL Saracens results as follows:
KL Saracens U14 5-24 Victoria Institution U14
KL Saracens U14 24-17 Kinrara Red Eagles U14
U13 friendlies at SMSS
On Sunday 23rd September, the KL Saracens U13 boys took a break from training to play two fixtures against our friends at SMSS, one at XV-a-side and one at 10-a-side. The hard work that this U13 squad has been putting in since the start of the year has really begun to show through and it is now hard to believe that it is the same group that was decimated by the loss of a large number of players at the end of last year. On the day the KLS boys were just that bit too slick for our SMSS opponents and took the bragging rights in both games, but we’ll have to keep on our toes as we know they’ll be looking to turn us over next time. Well done to all of the coaches and players involved here – keep up the good work.

U9 friendlies at COBRA
Also in action on Sunday 23rd September were the KL Saracens U9 team, playing at Padang Astaka in a series of round-robin friendly 10-a-side games with hosts Cobrats and Phoenix Putrajaya. It had been over three months since the last competitive fixture for the U9s, so they did very well to shake off the ring-rust and get straight into the action, winning the first of their 4 games of the day by two tries to one. All four of the matches were closely fought and competitive and it was clear that these youngsters are really starting to build an understanding of the game in their first season of contact rugby. There were some individual pieces of brilliance as well as some very good team play, but most importantly all of the games were played in a fantastic spirit by all of the teams, making it a great afternoon of rugby for all. Many thanks go to our friends at COBRA for hosting, we look forward to seeing you again soon.
