KL Saracens Seniors recorded a convincing 37-7 win against COBRA Saturday in the first round of the inaugural Super Series, a round robin tournament with COBRA, KL Saracens, KL Tigers and Royal Selangor Club finally coming together for pride and the love of rugby.
Coach Kirk Munro said that it was “great to start the new Super Series with a win. Solid performances from all the boys inspired by good leadership from the senior players. The training we have done so far is starting to really show on the field. A really fantastic result given the conditions and we still got to see some exciting team tries even with a slippery ball on a slippery pitch. Special mention to Harry Greenall at 13 having a great first up performance for the club in the midfield with Leo Suarez at 12.”
Assistant Coach Troy Looms noted that the “forwards set the standard by making good yardage with ball in hand and supporting the ball carrier well. Some good continuity at times with several offloads. Kurt Girven, Mitch O’Brien and James Savastano worked well together as forwards dominated lineouts and scrums. Centre Leo Suarez was a constant threat, breaking the defensive line on numerous occasions and picking up two tries.”
Captain Pete Scargill adds, “I thought that our lads played to our strengths and utilised a strong set piece effort to good effect. We won almost every single line-out which put the opposition under immense pressure and basically starved them of possession. Defensively we fronted up and we were determined to defend solidly, making our tackles, and being sensible at the breakdown. Offensively, we had some great ball carriers who were able to get over the gain line to provide front-foot ball. Looking forward to next week when we will try to cut out a few errors and keeping striving to improve.”
Next match is on Saturday 3rd of December against Royal Selangor Club. The lads will have to work hard at training this week!
