Starting our 3rd season in Liga KRS Division1, we knew that with more structure to our game, we could mount a serious challenge for the league title.
In the weeks building up to this game, training had been very focused on game structure and control, making sure we all know our job on the pitch at any given time and making the right decisions.
It became obvious only minutes into the game that all the hard work had paid off. With forwards having battered their way up the field and sucked in the defence, the backs got clean quick ball on the Cougars 22, which was converted into the first try of the season for Joe Rodway.
Having taken a 5-0 lead, the forwards started to show their dominance at the set piece and in the loose and it was only a matter a time before we crossed the line again. With 2 more tries before half time from George Aird and Gabe Lingan, we were looking comfortable at 17-0.
The 2nd half continued in much the same way, with the backs exploiting some poor defence for a 2nd Joe Rodway try early in the half. Substitutions were made throughout the half but the pressure on the opposition remained constant with 3 more tries before the end from Dave Mcpherson, Conor Cheng and Gabe Lingan.
Final score 39-0.
Overall a good start. The way we controlled the game was impressive, but we did miss a few chances and made some basic errors, so still plenty to work on at training.
Following the match, players from KL Saracens, MAS Cougars and UM Blues joined up for dinner at Out of Africa, as we look to improve the social side of the club – A good game was followed by a great evening!
