The 1st XV were in action again last Saturday 10th February, playing in a high tempo physical encounter with local rivals and good friends, Cobra. Although the performance was not yet close to the finished article, KL Saracens utilised their forward dominance to great effect to secure a third win of the season 22-5.
On Sunday 28th Jan, the KL Saracens Academy team marked their debut in the Selangor league with an impressive 32-12 victory against Diamond Division 2 opponents SBOB. The Academy boys had a second shot of league rugby on Sunday 11th February, notching up a hard-fought 29-24 victory against a very experienced Rhinoz side, for the second time showing great resiliance under pressure and no shortage of flair in attack. The depth of the current Academy squad was highlighted earlier in the day when the Academy Development team registered a 20-10 victory against Ansara.
For the first time ever, KL Saracens have 3 teams performing in the Selangor leagues this year, with KL Saracens Storm joining the Academy in Division 2. Storm got their 2018 season under way on Sunday 4th February with a powerhouse performance against KRAS, putting them to the sword by a score of 36-0. Storm’s second fixture of the season took place on Sunday 11th February and was much more of a nail-biting affair, Storm managing to hold out by a score of 17-10 against an abrasive KS Gunners team.
All in all a very encouraging start by all teams, but nobody is under any illusions as to how tough it will be to maintain this level of success as we go further into the season – Honesty, Work Rate, Discipline & Respect remain the watch words as all teams continue to put in the hard yards behind the scenes.
